There are a variety of roofing materials, including composition shingles, tile/slate, metal roofs, solar shingles, and flat roofs. Composition shingles are the most common and most popular for homes because they are affordable and easy to find. Tile and slate roofing products are typically more expensive than composition shingles, but they come in a variety of shapes, colors, and compositions. Metal roofing products cost at least two times more than composition roofs, whereas solar shingles are energy-efficient, durable, and require very little maintenance. Lastly, flat roofs protect the building from water, but are typically only found on commercial buildings.
